The Gimp Tutorial And Free Gimp Download

If you are looking for a Gimp tutorial, or ‘the Gimp’ as many refer to it as, then probably the best sites are those offering Gimp video tutorials. The Gimp is one of the most comprehensive website graphics applications online, and a free Gimp download is available from many free and open source websites.

So what exactly can the Gimp do for you, and why should you learn by means of a Gimp video tutorial? The name stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program, GNU being what is referred to as a recursive acronym for GNU’s no Unix, and is a free operating system like Unix, but containing no Unix code. What GNU means, however, is largely irrelevant to the normal person’s use of Gimp, and since a free Gimp download is easy to get, the normal person uses it a lot.

It is a highly sophisticated application, and very much like the very expensive Adobe Photoshop in functionality. It can be used, for example, with digital photographs to sort many photographic problems such as perspective problems caused by lens tilt and also to carry out digital retouching to enhance the detail of digital images. These are among the simple tasks that the Gimp tutorial will teach you.

However, it can also be used in website design to develop wonderful looking web pages and templates s well as practically intuitively for simple jobs such as image resizing. Many web designers use on the Gimp for their professional work, and it can do the vast majority of jobs that Photoshop can do: perhaps them all, though I have not yet had to do everything that Photoshop can do, so don’t know if Gimp can. However, I’ve yet to find something that it cannot do.

Although a free Gimp download is easy to find, however, a good Gimp tutorial is not. Many tutorials are written and very difficult to follow, and even those sites that offer screenshots of how to use The Gimp are often very difficult to follow. There is always that little something missing. A Gimp video tutorial, however, misses nothing because you see the Gimp being used in front of your eyes, from the initial download all the way to using it in a design operation.

One of the most important aspects of learning how to use Gimp is understanding exactly what it is and how it achieves its basic functions. Once you understand that, then you can begin to understand how it can be used as an alternative to Photoshop. You will learn about layers, channels, maks, masked filters and all the normal; stuff, and also how to create your own brushes, including dynamic brushes, and how to replace or remove image backgrounds.

Using the Gimp tutorial you will learn how create fabulous website graphics, and compelling WEB2 graphics that people will be offering you fortunes to design just for them. The Gimp video tutorials are the best way to learn how to use the Gimp, and the free Gimp download also helps to render this one of the most attractive graphics packages currently online.

For information on the Gimp and how to use it, visit Pete’s website at Online Net Income where a free Gimp download is available together with the documentation, also the offer of a Gimp tutorial to help you use it better.

Wow. You just never know what can and will happen for people. My team and I had the pleasure of working with Laney Chantal who is now known for being on SyFy’s hit show FACEOFF, She is also a model, as well as a very talented makeup and special effects artist. Check out her website:

These are some images from a shoot we did back in 2009. The body painting is done by me, Bryan Crump. The corsets you see are actually sculpted and made of ceramic. They are the famous "Ceramic Corsets" designed by none other than Nicole Moan, another very talented artist.

It has been my pleasure and honor over the years to work with some pretty amazing and talented to people. I truly feel blessed.

My team and I would like to say congratulations to Laney on getting a chance to show her work and what she can do on FACEOFF. She has had her work and modeling featured in several publications and websites but I think this recent thing with SYFY if going to be a huge catalyst for her.

The rumor I hear is that she is also Engaged to marry Twiggy from the band Marilyn Manson. A lot of big things happening for this lady. Keep working on your dreams. You never know what is possible.

I hope one day my skills are developed enough to compete on Faceoff. I was in talks with one show, but callbacks can take forever in this industry. You never know what each day will bring, so we must always work towards the future and improving every day.

Tune in to Watch SyFy’s Faceoff every Tuesday to see some amazing artists compete and see what they are capable of.

Feel free to share, reblog, etc. If you would like to see more of my work you can follow me here and on my facebook fanpage:

The Infinite Stairs to the Oubliette

This is one of the areas where the French kept Marie Antoinette in the conciergerie. There were many mysterious parts of these chambers, and this was one of the most interesting.

I one time designed a set of stairs like this back in the day with a Quake level editor. There was a website where you could upload your creations that could be shared by other level designers. I uploaded my stairs, but I don’t know if they were ever used or not. I thought I saw them in E1M4, but then I realized that those stairs were actually 5x better than mine.

I know everyone has their own various tastes for HDR, and mine is all over the map! Sometimes I really feel artsy and go crazy with one, like this car above. It’s hard with awesome cars… because the reflectivity in HDR is so off the map.

I’ve been meaning to get to one of those high-end car shows and go crazy with my tripod. I’ve heard the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach is really one of the best in the world… but maybe you all know of some other stellar car shows you can recommend?

What Are Some of the Essential Elements of a Good Seo Tutorial?

If you want to improve your website’s visibility in search engines without spending a lot of money by hiring an SEO professional, there’s good news for you. You don’t have to spend a small fortune to get your website to rank high. You will, however, need to devote some time and effort to learn seo and effective optimization techniques. To assist you in this endeavour, go online and look for an SEO tutorial. There are many primers to choose from that can assist you in learning the basics of search engine optimization.

A good tutorial should start out by explaining what search engine optimization is and why it’s important. When explaining the techniques involved in search engine optimisation, the tutorial should make a distinction between ethical SEO techniques which offer helpful content to searchers and conform to search engine guidelines – often referred to as white hat SEO – and the so-called black hat SEO techniques that aim to get high search engine ranking through duplicitous means that degrade the search experience.

Knowledge of how search engines work is fundamental to understanding search engine optimization. Your tutorial must explain the function of search engines, the different types, and how each type works. It should teach you the difference between organic search results and paid listings and should provide you with a glossary of common search engine terms.

Search engine optimization begins even before you design your site. It starts by choosing the right domain name for your website. Your tutorial should teach you the factors that will most effectively bring in targeted traffic and cause you to outrank your competitors when creating your domain name. Hand in hand with choosing the perfect domain name is keyword research and selection. Although there is some discussion about the weight of keywords in domain names when it comes to ranking, it doesn’t hurt to have the right keywords in your domain name.

Keywords are the most important factors in search engine optimisation, so a good tutorial will go into depth about this topic. It should direct you to the tools you can use to select the right keywords and teach you where to position these keywords on and off your pages, how often you should use them, and other related matter. Armed with this basic understanding of SEO, you can then begin to design your website. Your tutorial should instruct you on how to optimally structure your website for search engines. Site navigation, appropriate HTML code, type of content, effects of static versus dynamic URLs as well as those of Javascript, animation, images and other multimedia – these are all matters that should be covered. Correct usage of these elements can spell the difference between website success and failure.

Link building is the other crucial factor in SEO. In constructing your website, you’re going to want to put in links to your internal pages via site maps, navigation bars, anchor texts, and other means. Even more important are inbound links coming from trusted sources. A good SEO tutorial should thoroughly examine the subject of links, explaining how to develop them, where to place them, what practices to avoid, etcetera.

A list of tools to use for keyword research and for measuring and tracking your website’s success should also be part of any good SEO tutorial.

Knowledge of the topics described above should equip you to take your website to the heights of search engine results.

Memory is a Golden Sieve
website design tutorial
Welcome to the new blog.
For the past year and a half I have been part of The Windy Pixel, a daily photoblog of urban and natural beauty. I ran the blog with Annie and Mike (those coming from tWp will be very familiar with these two folks), but the time has come for me to strike out on my own. The name for this blog comes from the writings and musings of Galen Rowell, who said that memory is a golden sieve which keeps the nuggets and lets the rubble pass through. His published words and photographs are a source of great inspiration and instruction for all photographers, myself included. I encourage you to read his books, support the Rowell Fund for Tibet and value wild places. My goal in creating this blog is to extend upon ideas I initially read about in Rowell’s books and to dissect photography and memory and to understand how the two connect. Ultimately, I hope to make The Golden Sieve a center for great photography, writing and a place of beauty on the internet.
What to do on the new site.
This site is but half made. I have spent the past months slowly building design elements and content from the ground up for your enjoyment, but there is much yet to be done. You’ll notice links at the very top of the webpage to buy photoshop actions, learn everything you ever wanted to know about HDR photography, and email me. There are also interactive gallery leads underneath the masthead (The City Gray and This American Giant) as well as an About Page where you can learn a bit about me and this blog.
You can buy prints of my work, read my gear recommendations (and eventually reviews) and poke around the short list of websites I enjoy visiting in the sidebar. You’ll also notice there is this neat little pull-out drawer in the upper left that has information about my twitter feed – follow me if you want to hear what I have to say.
I encourage you to click around from page to page and check things out.
Today’s photograph is accompanied by a 55-minute tutorial that shows you how I produce these images from CF card to blog. Affecting memory with photography is partly a function of translating what we find so pleasurable about primary visual experience into the medium of digital photography. As I mention in my "Materials and Methods" page, I believe HDR photography is so exciting and interesting to many people because it simulates constancy phenomena that we experience every day. Shadows are never pure black, bright lights are never pure white – we perceive color and luminosity as a function of local environment – i.e. we make a subconcious calculation as to an object’s brightness and color based on how it is lit. HDR is one of the only photographic techniques I’ve come across that triggers those calculations in a static, 8-bit image. What I hope you gain from watching the video is an appreciation of how to reproduce those phenomena and how to make great HDR images. Moreover, if you listen carefully during the video you’ll be able to hear one of my cats meowing loudly as if to ask me what the hell I was doing talking to my computer screen late at night!
A Golden Memorial.
There are several reasons I picked this photograph as the first for The Golden Sieve. First, I’m a bit of a geek, and as far as I understand, this is one of the first places that was photographed in HDR, and that makes it all the more fun to use as a template for playing with new "HDR" techniques. Now a member of the research community at Stanford University, I am proud to call this place home and was very eager to take my camera for a first visit to the crown jewel of campus. You will assuredly see many more photographs from inside the church in the future as it is such a great place for photography (if not a little overcrowded on the weekends!).
Stanford University is a memorial in honor of Leland Stanford Junior, whose life was cut short and whose fabulously wealthy and industrious parents commissioned a school in his honor. The Memorial Church was built by Jane Stanford to honor her husband and as such is something of a memorial within a memorial. It is a golden and crimson space that is resplendent with light (making it a great first subject for HDR) and is the golden sieve writ in stone and glass. If memory captures and stores positive experience, then this building is a testament to the power of that sieving capacity. Of all the long years that the Stanfords shared, through their great personal tragedy and onward, they found it in their hearts to give and to produce something as noble as a University.
What tremendous foresight they had in hiring Olmsted to design the campus and in setting up the trust so that it would remain large even when it had no use for its vast acreage. The university’s flexibility and prime location (seriously it is beautiful out here) made it a natural birthing ground for the information age (here is a very interesting piece about how and why Silicon Valley is where it is). Through all this the Memorial Church has stood (despite serious damage during the 1906 earthquake) and has provided hallowed ground for the formation of countless golden memories of faculties, students, staff, and visitors. What better starting image could there be.
My first attempts to gain access to the church having ended in some frustration (I seem not to be blessed here with the same luck of timing as I was in Chicago’s Rockefeller Chapel), I decided to commit the hours to memory and return during a lunch hour some weekend while I was at work. The interior was cool but a little humid, crowded and lit by huge beams of noon sunlight that slammed off of the stone walls and created deep shadows and very bright highlights. There were tourists and visitors everywhere.
I set up and waited for a lull in the activity. I’ve noticed people tend to move in groups, even when a group of people is composed of strangers. Perhaps we all heed social queues about when and where to walk and leave and come and go when in public spaces. Time ticked by and the church emptied, the heavy door creaking shut and leaving me to produce this series of images. During the last few exposures, a new group moved in through the door behind me and I held them off for a moment while the shutter counted down its seconds. Oh yes, I will be back.
Come, have a seat in the chapel as I evangelize modern, digital photography:

Website Layout and Design

Visitors will find it difficult to make a purchase or even find the information they are searching for on sites with poor navigation or bad functionality. On a poorly designed site, it can be difficult to know what to do next, once you’ve found what you’re looking for. If you want your visitors to take any sort of ‘action’, you need to give them some clues as to what that may be.

It will be difficult to sell your product if your buy-it page link is hard to find. One of the most important issues in web design is ease of functionality, and clear buttons and links will make your site much easier for visitors to read and navigate.

Keep to the point. If something distracts the attention of the user, it more than likely will distract them from action. Minimize the number of pages between the point of entry and the point of sale.

Intuitiveness is key in terms of navigability and use of hyperlinks. The navigation section needs to be plainly demarcated as separate from the primary content of your web page. Users of the website should be able to locate information by no more than three clicks. To make sure that your site is easy to navigate and understand, you should give specific tasks to accomplish on your site to several different people, and encourage them to give you constructive feedback. Utilize this feedback to enhance the user experience.

A number of website owners make the mistake of choosing style over actual content. Flash, as an example. When Flash is used to excess, it may require extra time to load, and lead your viewers to grow impatient. More important still, an excess of distracting features will actually detract from your message. The purpose of style is to augment and highlight your site’s main message, rather than take away the viewer’s attention. Video, animation, and other forms of graphics all have their place within the content delivery stream. In your website, however, your main message shouldn’t be lost.

A different issue happens if you construct an attractive and instructive site, and then neglect it. The information becomes stale in just a few months. Countless outdated online sites exist, and anyone visiting one of these outdated websites is bound to feel let down and will rarely make a return trip to that site.

Make sure your website is validated. When a website doesn’t “validate”, it means you must rely to a degree on the browser’s “estimate” of how it should work, and not all browsers are equally accommodating. Without trying out your site in each of the usual browsers, you have no way of knowing exactly how it looks on the monitors of your target viewers.

Don’t forget accessibility to the handicapped. Web sites should be accessible to as broad a spectrum of users as they possibly can be. Furnish links taking users to the primary content directly under the banner; this allows users of screen readers the choice to avoid having to deal with the navigation of each page.

Website Design Tutorials

If you were to ask most website owners (keep in mind that we’re not necessarily talking about professional web designers or other IT professionals here) what the best way is to learn web design, they would say that they found website design tutorials to be the most helpful resource. Like any other kind of tutorial, they are designed to take you step by step through specific tasks so that you can see just what you have to do to get from beginning to end.

A lot of people prefer using tutorials on website design rather than using a book on a specific programming language, a piece of software or taking a series of web design classes since a tutorial’s approach to instruction is a more concrete, easy to use set of information. Each step is a specific action which you can do immediately; a tutorial teaches you how to perform complex tasks by breaking them down into a series of simple tasks. With a little repetition, it’s easy to master many things (including some aspects of website design) this way.

Another advantage of using tutorials to teach yourself website design is that a tutorial gives you just what you need to know right now. You don’t have to learn everything there is to know about, say, the Perl scripting language in order to do one small job when you could read a tutorial about exactly what you need to do at the moment. It is very difficult indeed to find a situation that someone else hasn’t already run into and written a tutorial about, at least in the field of web design.

Tutorials also allow you to learn whenever you like and at your own pace, unlike traditional classroom instruction. Whether the tutorial in question is a book, an article on a website or a video, you can read, watch, or listen to the tutorial whenever you like and if you’re trying to come to grips with an especially complex or difficult task, you can take all the time you need to master each step of the process before you move on to the next.

When you’re trying to learn web design or to solve a particular problem you’ve run into along the way as you build or maintain your site, chances are that you’d like to be able to overcome whatever hurdle you’ve come across so that you can move on to the next challenge. That’s where website design tutorials really excel. Since they’re generally short and focused on a particular issue, they are a great way to not only learn how to solve problems which you can’t find a solution to on your own, but if it fits with your learning style, to learn web design in general. If you enjoy problem solving, you can always teach yourself, turning to tutorials only when you’re truly stumped.

Many of us learn best from tutorials, since they allow us to see (whether in pictures or words) exactly how it’s done – and when you’re able to see something for yourself, you’re much more likely to understand and remember what you’ve learned

Video Notes:

************************1. Create templates************************

Now a, a big problem that I see with business owners and like clients that hire me and, and other WordPress web designers is for every page, they’re designing like, a new page. You know, it’s like well, we need to add a new page to our website. It’s like, oh great, I gotta design a whole nother page.

Now it doesn’t work that way, you need to be creating templates and a lot of website, website themes today support a template based system. So what we do is we create a series of templates that you can now export to the rest of your pages. But it’s still important that those templates.

************************2. Top level Navigation************************

First of all, and of course, you know, like you’re, you’re always, this could be your social media links up here. This could be like your phone number, or an email button.

You know, having those, always able to contact me, buttons, I think is a good idea. Up here you’ve got your navigation tabs. Now, when I first started in this, it was kind of like the thinking that you should have seven navigation tabs. I don’t agree with that anymore.

I think that you need to have like four or five, tops, and they need to be very simple. Every single one of them should be directed at converting a viewer to sale. So you don’t need one of these navigation tabs to say home. Right? Cuz typically your logo will lead you home.

You, you need it to say something like, About Us. What we offer. How to work with us. And our blog. Something like that.

************************3. Sidebar and Footer************************

I believe in side bars. Some people are doing like this whole page design, that’s okay. That’s fine. If that’s the, the intent of your site. I like side bars because it enable me to, to engage with the viewer in different ways.

Use related pages for your web design- It might be helpful to have YouTube. You know, YouTube marketing. Landing page videos. Video production. Video bumpers. You know? Maybe even a tag that says, what are you looking for? And then underneath that I have a little circle there. Which I typically use to represent a testimonial. So maybe you’ve got.

A WordPress testimonial widget right in there, where it’s, every time it’s refreshed, a new testimonial pops up, right. So you’re engaging with the viewer that way. You might even have like social media links on, experimenting with an Instagram box. We’ll see how that turns out. Let’s go to your, I’ll come up to the main page last, go to your footer.

Your footer here is a huge resource. I like to have a three or four box footer that maybe has, like, you know, a summary about us, maybe our social links and then, maybe, like, a schedule, like schedule with me, or a work with me, right. And this could be an image.

Maybe it looks like a contact box, but it’s an image, and when you click it. It will go back to that work with us page, see. And then maybe in here you’ve got something you like your blog roll. Right? So your, your latest and greatest blogs. Or maybe it’s like your most popular blogs which you know, you can, you can work that out with some plug ins.

************************4: Main Page************************

In your main page or top level design page, your main body, let’s go back to that. Okay, we said about 400 words. But look at how I have it structured. I have an image up at the top and then I have some text right next to it. Now underneath that I have more text.

Underneath that I have some bullet points. So basically what you have here is you’ve got, you know, everything you really need to convert that viewer. Right up here, right up there. And then you’re gonna say something like let’s dig into that a little bit more because you don’t want them necessarily moving off of your page, right?
